There is a Safe Environment Session scheduled for May 6, at 5:30pm in Leonpacher Hall. If you plan on volunteering for VBS, or other Youth activities this summer please make sure you are Safe Environment Certified.

Safe Environment Requirements:


The Diocese of Lafayette is committed to insuring a safe environment for all children against sexual abuse.
 
All clergy, lay employees, and volunteers, whose work/ministry involves contact with children, shall undergo a criminal background check. Also, there shall be documentation of reference checks for all new employees and ALL volunteers.
 

All clergy, lay employees, and volunteers, whose work/ministry involves contact with children, shall undergo initial education/training in the diocesan safe environment program. In addition, each calendar year, they will be required to attend a continuing education in-service on child abuse-related issues.

First Time Registrants:


  • Below is a link for First Time Registrants to create an account on Virtus and register for an Initial Session. 
  • Once you create an account, choose a class titled: Safe Environment for the Protection of Children and Young People or Initial Safe Environment Training (Preferably at St. Pius, but sessions at other locations are viable options as well.)

Recertification:


  •  You are eligible for recertification if you have done the Initial Safe Environment Training and it has been less than 5 years since your most recent renewal.
  • To recertify, login to your account on virtusonline.org and complete the online module for the current year.
