Update as of Sunday, July 14, 2019
Update as of Sunday, July 14, 2019, all Sunday morning and evening Masses have been cancelled. Please stay safe and know you’re in our prayers.
Update from Fr. Pitre as of Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 2 p.m.:
The latest weather predictions for Lafayette into tomorrow show heavy thunderstorms, rain, and wind throughout the morning. Therefore, the decision has been made to cancel all morning Masses on Sunday. Additionally, after consultation with Fr. Brady, I have made the decision to formally dispense all St. Pius X parishioners from the Sunday obligation to participate in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
As of now, the Sunday evening Masses remain in effect, but again, we will continue to monitor the weather. The decision on whether or not to cancel our final two Masses will be made tomorrow morning after consulting the updated weather forecast. However, if our last two Masses happen, the regularly scheduled lectors/music/sacristans/ushers etc. are not required to attend but will be left free to care for their needs and/or volunteer to help elsewhere in Acadiana.
Update as of Friday, June 12, 2019: Please note that the Saturday 5 p.m. Mass at St. Pius X Church has been cancelled. As of now, Sunday Masses are scheduled as usual, but stay tuned in the event something would change. Fr. Pitre also wanted to make sure you were aware of the Bishop’s statement regarding Mass Attendance this weekend. You can find it here:
Please stay safe and stay tuned for more updates and/or additional information:
Please note that the St. Pius X Parish Office is closed Friday, July 12, 2019, due to the impending storm. Additionally, please keep all campus facilities locked during the storm, as well as during unfavorable weather conditions before and after the storm. If local officials are advising residents to stay off the roads, please let it be understood that St. Pius X Church facilities are to remain locked and ministries cancelled or rescheduled. Outside of these advisories, please base any decisions you make on the safety and protection of parishioners and facilities.
Potential Mass & Sacrament Cancellations
As to potential cancellations of Mass and Sacraments, please stay tuned. We will be monitoring weather/road conditions and advisories from local officials and/or the Diocese. In the event there are cancellations, we will update you here and/or on our Facebook page as soon as possible.
Perpetual Adoration Chapel Announcement:
With the threat of the storm that is coming our way, we have decided that we will repose the Blessed Sacrament in the Adoration Chapel on Thursday, July 11th at 4 PM. This will give everyone adequate time to make the necessary preparations, and get needed supplies. Once the storm has passed, we assess flooding risk, power outages, etc. and then make a decision about when the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed again. At that time, we will post an update.
Resources from KATC:
Before, during and after the storm, KATC will update this article, which lists several helpful resources.
