The Assumption of The Blessed Virgin Mary
Today, August 15th, is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Since it falls on a Monday this year, it is not a holy day of obligation, so our Mass and Confession schedules will remain the same. This feast recognizes the transformation of Mary’s earthly life into a heavenly one. Mary’s obedience and faith are to be celebrated and modeled, and her strength and discipleship admired. As the first disciple and the first to glorify Christ’s complete triumph over death, we can learn a lot from our Blessed Mother. The five Marian Dogmas (The Immaculate Conception; Mary, Mother of God; her perpetual virginity; the sinlessness of Mary; and the Assumption) all teach us about Jesus and help us to understand and move closer to Him. For your information, if you are interested in learning more about our Blessed Mother, we often celebrate Masses themed to her life at the Saturday morning Masses, especially First Saturday. Come join us if you can!
